The Red Devil

is an important embelm of Carlton ware and Carlton Ware china. The Carlton Pottery has always been based in Stoke on Trent. The Red Devil was a pwerful motif on the famous 'Hangman' jug of the 1930s and 1950s. But the REd Devil was a real star of the 1930s too, with many Rouge Royale pieces coming out like the Red Devil Charger, or a 'Devil's Copse'. These are handpainted pieces which ofent involve a lot of gold embellishment. They may be worth £000's today. In fact it is still possible to picke up hand painted pieces from MAries Graves - one of Carlton Ware's best freehand painters over the last decade.
